“This place is about friendships, you know.” – Aiden

MJ walked over to get her lovey after getting hurt in the Building Space. Aiden, who was at the Communication Center, approached her with a drawing.

Aiden: I was making hearts. I heard you crying. This is you sad. This is me next to you.

MJ: I like rainbow colors.

Aiden: Sure, I can draw some on the back.

MJ walks over to the couch and brings her family book.

Aiden: Which color ribbons do you like?

MJ: Yellow, red, and green.

Aiden adds ribbons and tapes his and MJ’s pictures with the words to and from.

Aiden: Here you go, MJ.

MJ: Thank you. I want to put it in my family book.

Aiden: I can help you. This place is about friendships, you know.

In this captured moment, we see the children as active community members who express an awareness when someone needs support. They know how to reach out and to accept care and kindness. The learning community that has been developing since the beginning of the school year invites the children to take care of each other in the different ways that we need.  NSW is filled with similar moments of tender kindness throughout each day. -Teacher Silvana

An invitation to parents:  I’m wondering what other observations of small, community moments you have seen at NSW.  Reply in the comments box below – Kris
