We are making orange juice!

Sam: I want to wait until my cup is filled up to pour my juice out.

Leo: We are going to have a lot of juice.

Genevieve: Ah! I did it! Now everyone can have some.

Hannah: That’s good Michael!

Michael: I did it!

Ophelia: We are not drinking it right now.

Michael: We are SQUEEZING! I need a little help here.

Hannah: You can do it.

Michael: It’s really easy.

Hannah: We are making orange juice.

Sam: Everybody knows that this kind of orange juice is sour. I made some. I need to try again.

Leo: You need to try harder.

Carla: Wait, we need to help.

Sam: That one (juice squeezer) is better, because it squeezes the oranges better.

Teacher’s Reflection

One of our all school intentions is to help the children work on their self-regulation skills. Integrating relevant activities into the children’s working spaces such as ‘cooking’ with real foods,  helps children gain focus and maintain interest. With oranges from home, the children attended to the task of making fresh orange juice in the house area with a feeling of accomplishment. Once done the children offered their creation at the lunch tables alongside the milk .  Bringing more real cooking experiences is one of our goals in the upcoming weeks as well as following the children’s debate – is it sweet or sour?
