We found two cases of lice this afternoon and we immediately started scratching and did a thorough head check. So while you’re relaxing
this evening please look for lice eggs (small and
white to yellow, attached to the hair follicle), lice critters (brown
to tan and in the base of the hair), and reddish, irritated skin.
Check everyone in your house (siblings, spouses, babysitters,
housekeepers, etc). If you find what you think is lice, the
preferred thing to do is go to your pharmacy and buy the over the
counter product and start shampooing. There are homeopathic
remedies at Santa Monica Pharmacy or you can google some sites for
info, as well. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS NO CHILD CAN COME TO SCHOOL WITH ANY REMNANTS OF EGGS IN THEIR HAIR BECAUSE THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THE EGG IS DEAD so you must use the little nit comb and go through every strand of hair to make sure the head is nit free.
Starting tomorrow, each child (and parent if you wish) will be
checked thoroughly by the teachers in the middle courtyard every
morning until the outbreak has been cleared. Any child with lice will
have to return home that morning. That means, you need to stay while
your child is checked, and its a good idea to make back up plans in
case your child needs to stay home that day – sorry, no exceptions,
it’s the only way we can keep from reinfecting at school.
We will be cleaning and/or removing all upholstery, pillows, hats, etc. and
doing our part so we are counting on you to help us, too. You might
want to take home your child’s bedding on a more regular basis for
awhile, too, and start rubbing some tea tree oil in your child’s hair
as a preventative (just a drop or so). The lice hate the oily, smelly
hair. Contrary to rumor, clean hair doesn’t keep you from getting
infected! Here’s crossing our fingers.
