Dawson had talked about his walks on the beach with his grandpa and how they always picked up trash when they've walked. This morning, the children were inspired to do the same in the neighborhood. So we donned plastic gloves and picked up some tongs.
Flora and her SMC intern Tanya led the children out to May Street carrying garbage bags for collection.
The children were excited to discover pieces of trash for the entire walk to McCune and back and sought out microscopic bits of trash with their tongs.
"We're helping this neighbor." Isabelle
"We're doing good for the environment." Paloma
"We're cleaning the world!" Arthur
Josie, Arthur, Paloma, Penelope, Isabelle, Dawson and Kai will meet to discuss what they found. The teachers are wondering if they will want to continue their environmental watch on a regular basis in the neighborhood, if they will identify a common item of trash found in the neighborhood and how they will want to expand on their experience.
