“We’re saying hasta luego.” – Ivy (MJ, WW)

Dear NSW community,

It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that MJ will be furthering her Spanish in the two languages program at UCLA Lab School this fall. Our family speaks English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese, and we have always wanted MJ to be able to speak directly with all of our family. That being said, we applied to Lab School thinking we would not get in, and breathed a sigh of relief when we got the rejection notice, looking forward to MJ’s year ahead in the East Wing. However, Lab School recently notified us of a late opening in the two languages pre-K classroom and it was truly a difficult decision.
A short list of things MJ will miss at NSW next year:
  • Astrid rubbing her feet at nap time
  • Community walks with Flora
  • The turtles
  • Her friends (she said, “Everyone”)
  • Community snack & making menus with Ivana & Evelyn
  • End of the day story time with Jess & Jessica
  • Sign language with Teacher Jen
  • Gymtastics with Peggy

Thank you to all the NSW staff who truly understand how magical early childhood can be. We have seen our daughter grow and thrive in the loving yet challenging environment. We love everything she has learned about being kind, thinking of others, and taking care of the earth. We know that she will take these lessons, and all of you, with her in her heart when she starts her new adventure in September.
Instead of adios, we’re saying hasta luego as we are staying on the Westside and hope to stay connected to all of you. MJ has already asked if she can visit next year. We look forward to seeing you at the book fair, holiday bazaar, art walks, and other alumni events.
Gracias a todos y nos vemos pronto,
        Jeremiah, Ivy, and MJ
