What’s Cooking at NSW?

Hi Everyone,

After meeting last week, we decided to give you a little “food for thought” for the summer break. There will be some exciting new changes in the new school year and we thought you might like to hear about them:

The parent and child school day cooking experience will continue. We hope to have one parent a week come in and will post a sign up sheet in the hall.

Katherine & Ivana will be taking a group of children to the Venice Farmer’s Market every Friday. While there, they will buy foods for the children to explore and eat at snack time.

To raise funds for a “farmer’s market” budget, we thought it would be fun to host a series of evening cooking workshops in the kitchen!  If anyone has a special cooking talent or recipe they would like to teach, let’s discuss it!  I will probably kick it off one night in September with homemade pasta making. Come cook, laugh, eat and drink wine!

We are discussing the possibility of a monthly (?) school community lunch for all the children. It would probably be prepared by parents with some involvement of the children. Details still need to be worked out.

There will be a cooking committee this year so please sign up at Parent Partners Night on 8/21 6:30-9:00 at New School-West  if you are interested in being more involved.

Finally, we have started a conversation about the school snack menu and would like to create a list of ideas for healthy, nutritious, kid-friendly snacks. If you have ideas or would like to be part of a conversation about this go ahead and email me directly as it would be great to get this started before the new year starts.

Thanks.

Happy summer!

Best,
Kristen Messina (Luca, soon to be EW)
