What’s happening with the Post Office?

The NSW Post Office Store- “The Love Post Office”

The Post Office committee has been hard at work getting ready for the grand opening of the NSW Post Office Store. At this time they are in the process of creating personalized USPS stamps, designing stationary, and creating a sign.

Here are some thoughts for our sign:

“We should have a sign with words.” Ryan

“What should the words say?” Teacher Cindy

“Love. ‘Cause I got a birthday card from a friend in the mail.” Lena

“We should call it, “The Love Post Office.” Bryce confirms Lena’s idea.

“Why a Love Post Office?” Cindy presses for an explanation of the shared feeling.

“ ‘Cause one time I got a card for my birthday and one time I sent a card to someone who was having a baby. You send mail to people you love.” Bryce expands, giving voice to her and Lena’s shared experience.

“We’ll draw hearts and we can write Love Post Office for the sign. We need shelves and a stand to hold the sign. My dad can build one for us and it will have shelves for our mail stuff.” Lena

“And rainbows, too.” Sienna

“A picture mailbox, too.” Bryce

“I think our sign should have pictures of stamps. Here is a picture of the bell stamp. My mom and dad always use this one.” Max

Creating Our Own Stamps

One of the key items the children want at their post office are stamps. As a surprise, Cindy introduced the idea of making a real US postal stamp. The children were provoked. What could they make?

“If I make my own, it will be just mine. We need to make something that we all can add to.” Mia

“We can all create something together.” Cindy

“I can make a cherry.” Sienna

“I like blueberries.” Ryan

“Are you agreeing on fruit?” Cindy

“I like cantaloupe.” Bryce

“I’ll make a banana.” Alex

“I can add an orange but I want to paint it.” Maddox

“Well, I can make a cherry, too.” Cookie

“Watermelon is my favorite.” Mia

“So our first stamp will be a fruit stamp?” Cindy

“Yes!” The group agrees…
