Last week we walked to the Post Office to deliver letters for Teacher Sam. The children noticed another group of children across the street. They were standing in front of a store that we had never visited. When those children saw us, they all waved and we excitedly waved back.
Quinton: Why are they there?
Jagger: Why do they all have matching clothes?
Ava: What is in the store?
Teacher Cindy: It says Mar Vista Time Travel Mart.
The children made a connection to the Magic Tree House chapter book series we read in the East Wing and wondered if the main characters, Jack and Annie, were in there. We agreed to get a closer look on our way back.
Arriving in front of the Mar Vista Time Travel Mart, we sat and began to discuss how we would find out about the other children and the store. To our surprise, the door opened and out came a worker who introduced himself as Mike.
He told us that the store was a place for students to come and do fun work, like writing their own collaborative books and creating poems. When we told him that we had seen children here earlier, he told us that they were on a field trip. They do field trips for schools, too. Mike said he would love to give us a tour and gave us information so we could make an appointment. Before leaving, he brought out some examples of students’ books for us to keep.
He said that we need to help create the endings. The children were very thankful and very curious. Needless to say, we took advantage of some shady spots to read along the walk back to NSW.
