In the East Wing studio we have been working with wire. The teachers, with the help of some experienced children, have been introducing the wire and the tools: wire cutters and pliers.
They know that they are real tools and need to be used with care. The children have practiced cutting with the wire cutters and using the pliers to bend the wire.
The teachers first focus the children on the basics of wire: cutting and bending. We project working with other materials as soon as proficiency with these tools occurs. More to come soon …. wire and beads. Ooooh!!
Lucy T.: “My fingers are the best tools to twist spirals.”
Alejandro: “It’s a mommy, a daddy, a brother and a sister.”
Sadie Jade: “You use one of the cutters and cut a wire and I twisted it with this (hold up her fingers). I made a circle up here. I am going to attach it. See I attached them. I made a peace sign.”
Lua: “These are very hard because they close right away (pliers). They open and shut right away.”
