“With the recipe book.” – Everly

In the Front Yard this morning, Teacher Katherine engaged children in a weekly ritual that is traditionally reserved for teacher preparation time in most programs. Years before, Katherine chose to slow down the easel set up to include children’s ideas of the palette. They mixed, named, and wrote the recipes for each color. This recipe book has a number, letter, color, and symbolic representation learning opportunities.IMG_6347

This intimate recipe book holds the legacy of children past and passes on the idea directly to children that they are capable of making meaning from each other’s work. The contextual academic learning that the Reggio Inspired practices value are ingrained in all of the daily rituals at New School-West. -Kristin
