WW thanks and updates 9/25/20

Thanks to Dot’s and Leon’s family for providing flowers this past week!

Reminder: Street work has us searching long and hard for places to park and we have opened the parking spots in the alley for all the pods. Please add time to find parking and be considerate of our neighbors when parking for pick-up and drop-off. Be careful not to block driveways, walkways, and alleys or to impede bike lanes. We strongly value being part of our neighborhood community and we want to make sure that we all work together to care for each other.

A Day in the Life of the Cilantros and Dandelions

This past week, the Dandelions explored color mixing, both in large containers and in small vials, outside with Flora. They practiced using droppers, scissors, and hole punches to continue to develop their fine motor skills. In the Mud Pit, they engaged in some big body, gross motor play with the shovels. Inside with Dana in the Exploration Room, they collaborated with each other — and with the Cilantros through shared images — to build on the platform with blocks and tubes. They also used laminated photos and rosters to begin to try to match written names with their faces. Some books that we’ve read this week include Saturday by Oge Mora, Should I Share my Ice Cream? by Mo Willems, Daniel’s Good Day by Micha Archer, All Are Welcome Here by Alexandra Penfold, and Don’t Touch My Hair by Sharee Miller. These are some great books that open up conversations about community: Who are the other people in a community? Who are we in a community? How do people create a community?

The Cilantros continue to gift each other in spaces and play. The House Area play entailed special deliveries. Outside, they created watercolor wrapping paper that will hold a gift for the Dandelion group. The Cilantros were surprised when we received a letter from the Dandelions inquiring what we do throughout our day. The letter also asked us what animal we like to be when we’re listening and moving to the song “Animal Action”. “See How the Garden Grows”, sung by Courtney Campbell, inspired one of the many steps the children did in planting Cilantro seeds: Cutting toilet paper rolls, filling the rolls with soil, planting the seed, and “showering it with love!”

Here are links to two new songs the children enjoyed this week.
