October is here, and it’s the start of a lot of celebratory months for many of us. Connect with your teacher about any family traditions you’d like to share at school! Coming up – Mica (EW) and his mom Anna will celebrate Dia de los Muertos on 10/30 at EW circle.
Flowers help us to see the seasonal changes and this week, Indie (WW), Luca (WW), Isaac (EW), and Hayes (EW) brought fresh flowers to brighten our first fall days.
Snack is also reflecting a seasonal change with fresh berries, citrus and muffins from Isaac (EW) and Kou (WW) and Barrett (WW), Moss (WW), and Emilio (EW), Lily (EW), Tallulah (WW), Grey (EW), Mika (WW), and Julian (EW) brought yummy snacks for all.
Roxanne and Laura (Ava, EW) lead a farmer’s market trip Friday.
We had computer ER done by the ever busy, Tamra (Isaac EW) who saved a school year of photos (yikes) and Emma began her month of Library support by taking a stack of books home to repair! The gardening team has been watering the indoor/shared space and parking area plants weekly – thanks Michelle (Arrow, EW), Chris (Moss, WW) and Katie (Poppy, EW)!
And last, but not least, it was our monthly catered lunch for the staff and Monika (Julian, EW) brought sandwiches, Genna (Gia, WW) brought donuts. Laura (Ava, EW) brought drinks, chips and apples, and along with Jess (Chase, EW) pumpkins for the classrooms! We are so spoiled – and we LOVE it.
Parent Reflection from attending a teaching team meeting:
Sarah Griffin (Avey, EW)
Christina Kollarou (Phedon, WW)
Overall, there are always ‘aha’ moments about what they’re doing, saying, learning, but what I love is how amazed you are all about what they’re saying and doing. That what they’re saying is getting used and that the universal truths about differences and community are really coming from the children. – Sarah (Avey, EW)
Attending the teachers meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd really made me think deeply about what NSW offers to us as parents, to our children, and to our community.
I wish every parent will get the opportunity to experience this and see how this magical place has been created. I will definitely encourage the people I meet to join those meetings.
I realized there is no magic and Roleen and Kris are not magicians… Observing the teachers in taking up roles and responsibilities, I realized there is a lot of hard work involved from each single person working at NSW. The teachers were passionate not only about finding ways to approach what they love most about our children but also how they will pass this knowledge to the parents, reinforce our families, and create a solid community.
It seemed to me during the meeting, that everybody’s idea was well respected and every teacher was open to explore new ideas when needed. – Christina Kollarou (Phedon, WW)
