As we close out the year, we think of next year’s possibilities. We begin to consider everyone’s experience and interests and how they relate to the new spaces in the East Wing and new children in the West Wing. We’re envisioning a gorgeous future together. We’re seeing new relationships on the horizon and solidifying good, old relationships too!
During a small group appointment, the West Wing children gathered in the East Wing with their new East Wing friends to express themselves through painting.
Being in a new space with new friends at first had them quiet and focused on their work. Teacher Jen intentionally wondered aloud,
Teacher Jen: I wonder what Avey is working on? Kirby, can you ask her?
Kirby looked over and asked Avey who shared about the rainbow and hearts she was working on. Then one by one they each asked their neighbors by name to share what they were painting. Shortly after the table was full of smiles, laughs, and sharing. It made this transition visible as we built relationships together.
At the Communication Center, Sonia was inspired by Lily and shared her creation.
The ramps in the exploration room provoked the children to work in collaboration.
Of course, some places will stay the same mostly because they remind us of home.
We’re watching how the children use the spaces together and considering how to update the East Wing for this new group. Tallulah and Everly will be welcome the incoming West Wingers with Teacher Cynthia for a foundation year in a full-day program. Enjoy your break. We will see you in the East Wing! – Cindy, Evelyn, Flora, Jen, Kris, Silvana, and Wendy!
