PROVOCATION
We parents are often in a hurry as we drop off and pick up our kids, but when East Wing parents dropped off their kids last week, it was hard to pass by the most beautiful set-up in the mini studio. Purple and green water colors, pastels, paintbrushes, coloring pens, all fanned out in front of a beautiful vase of lavender. The scene was so inviting I had to photograph it. Then I got down on my knees and tried to sign up for an appointment, but the teachers wouldn’t let me! But it made me think of how much time the teachers spend setting up spaces that are provocative for the kids and irresistible to the parents. Who wasn’t seduced by the atelier during the tour of the school? Who didn’t want to just sit there and make things or at least imagine themselves doing so? Thanks to all the teachers who take the time to provoke curiosity, imagination and cultivate the appreciation of beauty in our children. And Kris, if you want to open up the back patio so parents can play after school, we’ll be there!
