While continuing our investigation along Venice Boulevard, we happened upon a couple of artists painting on the facade of Trunk Gallery. Mitchelito introduced himself and his friend, Chalavie. They shared their work and the process they go through to complete a painting.
The children were thrilled to hear that these two artists worked on a common piece and made the connection to their own work on partner drawings. They also enjoyed watching the artists paint using familiar materials and techniques such as those used at NSW and they took photos.
At the end of our visit we were invited to attend their opening reception this Saturday, 10/10/15 at 6:00pm-10:00pm. This event will have live music playing while Mitchelito and Chalavie work on a new collaborative painting. The children couldn’t wait to share this event with their friends back at NSW.
As the opening day approaches the children are getting very excited and are hoping to attend. As teachers we are reflecting on our goals on valuing children as active participants in their society. We are hoping that some of you will be available to bring your children to this opening. Having been in contact with Mitchelito he expressed that he would love you to introduce yourself to him, and Chalavie. They are looking forward to making a connection to The New School-West.
