Updated easel space in the front yard.

In the front yard, the teachers reassesed the easels after the parents had mixed paints to match the fall provocation provided at the WW back to school night.

Sam and Yoli worked together to make the space more inviting and independently usable for the children; adding new brushes and mixed media options.

Kris worked with Payton, Hayden, and Georgia G. this afternoon. We started by preparing our spaces, getting fresh water, paper, and choosing brushes. We then took a good look at the provocation.

Kris: “Take a good look at this arrangement. What colors do you see? Hold the gourds in your hands.”

Payton: “I want to paint the orange one.”

Kris: “What colors will you need?”

Payton: “This orange and this yellow.” She takes the gourd to the mixed paints and matches the colors to take back to her easel.

JT (Payton’s dad, WW) joined in on the fun. “I’m writing JT and Pay Pay so we’ll remember this moment forever.”

Hayden: “I’m painting the flowers! All this yellow is making me tired!”

Kris: “What color comes next?”

Hayden: “The green.”

Georgia: “I want to paint this bumpy one.”

Kris: “Let’s take it to the paints and choose your colors.”

Georgia: “I need the cream and the yellow.” She takes them back to her easel and asks me to hold the gourd for her.

Kris: “What color will you start with?”

Georgia: “The yellow.”

Kris: “What color will you use for the bumps?”

Georgia: “Red.” She holds the gourd to feel it again.

Kris: “How will you use your paintbrush to make bumps?”

Georgia: “Like this.” She uses a dot motion to dab red paint on the yellow gourd.

Kris: “Let’s take a step back.  What else does it need?”

Georgia: “Some purple!”

Slowing down the process to think about what to paint, it’s shape and weight, what colors to use and what texture to create, deeply involves the painter in the process and brings an intention to the work.
