While designing the windows and windshield of the Fire Truck, the children encounter a challenge.
Ruthie: We need something strong to cut the plexi-glass.
Matan: We can try the blade we used to cut the cardboard.
Teddy: No, we need something stronger.
Teacher Adriana: It sounds like we don’t have the right tool at this moment.
Lily: We can ask in reflection meeting for ideas.
During reflection meeting:
Lily: We need to find a way to cut the right size.
Luca: I know we need an electrical saw or one of those machines my garden guy uses at my house.
Cooper: Or I can ask my gardener, Lupe. He has great tools.
Luca: I can ask my gardener. His name is Christian
Teacher Adriana: It sounds like we have the idea of communicating with our community.
As the children realize how much work this idea might require, they decide to write a letter to invite community members to collaborate with us. The Fire Truck has given us the opportunity to come together and support one another to make the children’s thoughts come alive.
The note says: “Dear New School-West Community. We need your support iun the East Wing with the following materials:
1.Electric Saw
2.Wood
3.A person to help us make the windows and ladder.
Thank you”
This blog is a little behind the times and the children connected with Grandpa Dan (Persephone, EW) who will work with the children on Wednesday this week. -Kristin
